Client: Peabody Energy, Metropolitan Colliery
Metropolitan Colliery – Peabody Energy, engaged the Hills BARK BLOWER to rehabilitate a slope with an erosion control option that both greened the area and stabilised the batter. The first application was carried out in 2015 and the cover crop germinated as designed. The native vegetation endemic to the area established over time and by 2017, the site was green, stable integrated into the natural bush surrounds. The site now houses a thriving ecosystem of flora and fauna.
There have been subsequent applications, culminating in the latest one on a new coal based batter end of 2019. This application was also used as a demonstration for the broader mining and roads community to showcase best practice in rehabilitation of eroded or challenging sites. This event was funded by the NSW Government Waste Less, Recycle More Grant program funded by the Waste Levy.
